Pastor Ted Haggard Pleads His Case to Oprah

Was I the only one who watched this smiling train-wreck of an interview between fallen evangelical leader Ted Haggard and queen of the universe Oprah Winfrey?

The whole thing was a little creepy, pretty sad, and down-right bizarre. Teddy-boy kept tossing out random churchisms and Oprah kept saying, "I don't buy it."

It was a battle of who speaks for God more between Ted and Oprah. "I speak for God more." "No, I speak for God more."

Let me basically boil down the whole hour for you. Ted said, "I loves menz, but that don't make me gay." And Oprah said, "Yah, it pretty much does." Then Ted's wife said, "It's all about choices. You can be gay without choosing to be gay." And Oprah was like, "Not really. That means your husband is sooo totally gay and a hypocrite." Cut to commercial, then roll the credits.

Toss in some stories about meth and a couple of grown, humiliated children and you have the whole show!

All in all, Oprah was pretty rough on old Ted. But he just kept smiling the whole way through. Mostly because he likes it rough. But that's his business, not mine.

Truthfully, I feel sorry for Ted and his family, even though his entire trial has been self-induced. It's sad because he could have helped so many people to love and accept themselves, but instead he's heaped shame and confusion upon himself and his family. It's a colossal tragedy.

So, who else watched it? Anybody? Who's gonna watch the HBO special? Or are you over the whole thing?
