I have a bachelors degree in broadcast journalism (i.e. tv news). I worked in the industry the year before September 11th, 2001. I quit and never went back. The news is too negative.
What do I do with my journalism skills now? I write about Britney Spears and Jesus and make low-budget youtube videos.
Why would I seemingly toss aside my years of schooling to deliver fluffy, feel-good articles instead of hard-hitting late-breaking news? The above video is why.
Watch as a Georgian reporter gets hit by a Russian sniper bullet while she is reporting on the air last week. She goes down, gets dragged to the news van, and keeps reporting! Seriously, that's hardcore hard-news.
I'll stick with what I do best, random celebrity gossip served with a touch of self-improvement, and I'll do it from the safety and comfort of my own home.
I think I'll leave the hard-news to people like that Georgia chick and Anderson Cooper. Human interest stories are better suited for guys like me and Andy Rooney.
